National Canoe Day
Music by Marcel Gelinas
Lyrics by Adrian Torrington
It’s Canoe, It’s Canoe, It’s Canoe, Canoe Day!
It’s Canoe, It’s Canoe, It’s Canoe, Canoe Day!
Where ever abroad climb aboard
to jam paddles all docks over
for spirits are fully restored
reliving rivers once more
On lake and brook alike
bring yourself back to life
for waterfalls for all of us inside
whispering earthly wishes tonight
It’s Canoe Day…
It’s Canoe, It’s Canoe, It’s Canoe, Canoe Day!
It’s Canoe, It’s Canoe, It’s Canoe, Canoe Day!
On National Canoe Day lets hit the waves
For a river tradition is now ours to reclaim
Let’s run the rapids and drift down ravines
Winding to the heritage of our ancestry
It’s Canoe, It’s Canoe, It’s Canoe, Canoe Day!
It’s Canoe, It’s Canoe, It’s Canoe, Canoe Day!
On National Canoe Day
Our sacred rivers await us all
On Canoe Day
Deliver yourselves to the wild
On Canoe Day
Adventures abound in the flow
On National Canoe Day
On the veins of mystery’s natures unknown

Dawn, Canada - Gelinas/Torrington
Dawn, Canada is an upbeat, pop-piano song, about a more serious subject: the Underground Railway, of Uncle Tom’s Cabin fame–focusing on Josiah Henson’s Dawn Settlement, near Dresden, Ontario–Canada.
The single was written by Marcel Gelinas and Adrian Torrington–recorded at the world-class Emac Studios in London–with Orchestral arrangements by Jeff Christmas. It was sponsored by The University Of Ottawa’s Promised Land Project–in partnership with the Philip Aziz Foundation of Arts–and will likely become a staple of Black History Month radio programming.
The song is one of twelve on Gelinas’ forthcoming album Kuhleborn: River Songs, with themes ranging across cultural, historical–and environmental subjects, specific to Canada and the Heritage River Thames.
Sponsored by The Promised Land Project
Part of the Kuhleborn Album
bass – Peter Miller
drums – Brad Mullet
string arrangement – Jeff Christmas
violin – Joe Lanza
violin – Sigmar Martin
viola – Jackie Milne
violoncello – Christine Newland

July 1st was a great, GREAT! show. The day started off with a great performance by a number of different acts in THE BAND IN YOU KIDS. We got a nice wide variety of music from who will probably turn out to be Grand Bend’s headliners of the future.
Ruth’s Hat put on a great high energy rock show. I was fortunate enough to pick up their latest album, Nostalgic for Right Now + The Sun Sessions, as well as a few of their older recordings. This album is really worth checking out!
Greg Gallello decided to showcase some of his new original material during his act. This was a real treat for anyone in the audience. We should look forward to his album release in the future. Visit him online if you’re out browsing about.
The first act I performed with on this Canada Day celebration was Lance Bedard. We had a blast up there pouring out tunes from his recent release, Restless, as well as a few new tunes that are sure to be a hit including “From My Father”, “Sunday Afternoon” and “Havin’ Some Fun”. The band had a great groove going on up on stage when we rocked out Havin’ Some Fun for the second time!
Brian Dale celebrated his CD release at this event as well. There was big anticipation for his show because this would be the first time the audience would get to hear the album in its entirety live! The CD is being finalized in the mastering process right now so we should look for it at Jam Night in Grand Bend shortly! I really enjoyed the feel we had on stage when I joined the band up on stage for the last three songs “Ferris Wheel”, “Miss Grand Bend” and “The Truck Song”. We really rocked out the last tune and the crowd loved Brian’s new material.
The crowd really started getting big when dusk was approaching. Vintage Moments took the stage and rocked us all out to some classic 50′s and 60′s hits. This was the first time I got to see Vintage Moments and I would definitely take the opportunity to see them again. They had a great vibe, great set, and they put on one hell of a good performance. There were people dancing on the beach during the entire set!
Natalie Tobin lead us in singing the national anthem just before the fireworks started and WOW! it was a great display in the sky!

National Canoe Day is tomorrow, June 26th. It is being celebrated all over the country. Check out the official website. Adrian and I decided to write a song for National Canoe Day so the demo is done and it’s available to hear…actually it should be playing right now… If you’d like to download the National Canoe Day MP3 feel free to. I’m playing at 12PM (noon) on June 26th at The Forks of the Thames in London, ON. I’ll be preforming two songs before we wave off the paddlers.
Later on that day I’ll be performing a set or two at the International Food Festival which is located at Victoria Park in London, ON. I’ll be starting at 5PM and playing until 6PM or 7PM. I’m probably going to do a few more canoe songs and then a solo tribute to Elton John. Check it out if you’re in the park and if you get any good pics, or video, send me the link and I may be able to use it on my website! Thanks and talk to you soon!
